NL-53
Class 1 Sound level meter
The NL-53 sound level meter is a versatile instrument for general sound level measurements in industrial, occupational, and environmental applications. It supports workplace noise assessments, sound emission measurements in accordance with ISO 374x, and sound immission measurements following TA Lärm.
With only three physical buttons and an intuitive color touchscreen, the NL-53 is straightforward to operate in the field. Key acoustic parameters such as LAeq, LCPeak, LAFTM5, L95, and others are acquired simultaneously, ensuring efficient and standards-compliant data collection. A pause function allows you to exclude interfering events from the measurement, improving the quality and traceability of your results.
Measurement data is stored in an open, CSV-based file format and can be transferred via USB-C or SD card. This enables flexible post-processing in custom Excel workflows or in dedicated Norsonic analysis software. In addition to handheld use, the NL-53 can be integrated into fixed noise monitoring systems.
A built-in web server and modern API provide straightforward remote access and control from proprietary software and monitoring platforms.

Device overview and ease of use
The RION NL-53 is a Class 1 sound level meter for straightforward measurements in occupational safety and environmental noise. With only three buttons and open data formats, it is easy to operate and fits both quick standalone tasks and workflows using Norsonic software.
Connectivity and system integration
Built around the concept of “Connect,” the NL-53 offers LAN-based remote access for status checks, data viewing, and real-time audio via a web browser. USB Type‑C supports mobile power, data transfer, and command-based control, making the instrument suitable as a node in larger monitoring and control systems.
Measurement capabilities and multi‑channel operation
The NL-53 supports IEC 61672 Class 1 measurements on up to four channels simultaneously, with independent frequency and time weightings per channel. Octave/third‑octave analysis, FFT, and WAV recording cover both routine assessments and more advanced diagnostics while improving field efficiency.
Data handling, accessories, and standards compliance
Data is stored as CSV on a memory card for direct use in tools like Excel, while PC access to the SD card simplifies transfer and archiving. Optional outdoor protection kits support long‑term and environmental monitoring, and compliance with major international standards ensures regulation‑ready results.

- Record detailed noise waveforms for reliable playback and post-analysis.
- Use event-triggered recording to capture only noise events that exceed a preset threshold, optimizing storage and review time.
- Post-process recorded noise data with the AS-70 waveform analysis software, converting time-domain signals into:
- FFT spectra for frequency-domain analysis
- Octave and 1/3-octave band analysis with user-defined settings and preferences.
Applications
What are you going to measure?
Environmental noise
Reliable noise monitoring with sound level meter, stand-alone terminals or large-scale systems.
Building acoustic
Building acoustic is about the sound that travels between rooms - something you'd rather avoid.
