Sound Insulation test according to ISO 16283

This video demonstrates how the Nor145 Sound Analyzer is used to perform airborne sound insulation measurements in buildings according to ISO 16283-1.

Viewers are guided through the complete measurement workflow, including instrument setup, wireless remote control, measurements in both source and receiving rooms, background noise and reverberation time measurements, and automatic calculation of acoustic performance indicators.

The video also shows how measurement data can be transferred to software for analysis, documentation, and reporting.

What You Will Learn

1. Measurement Setup

  • How to configure the Nor145 for building acoustics measurements according to ISO 16283-1.

  • How to use a smartphone or tablet for wireless remote control.

  • How to create and organize a measurement project.

2. Source Room Measurements

  • Measuring sound levels generated in the source room.

  • Viewing frequency spectra and octave or one-third octave band data.

  • Monitoring measurement results in real time on both the instrument and the mobile device.

3. Receiving Room Measurements

  • Measuring sound levels transmitted through the separating building element.

  • Comparing source and receiving room levels.

  • Verifying measurement quality throughout the test.

4. Background Noise Measurements

  • Measuring background noise in the receiving room.
  • Applying automatic corrections when background noise affects the results.

5. Reverberation Time Measurements

  • Performing T20 and T30 reverberation time measurements.

  • Determining the acoustic characteristics of the room.

  • Using reverberation time data in the calculation of standardized sound insulation values.

6. Automatic Calculations

  • The video demonstrates how the instrument automatically calculates key acoustic parameters, including:

  • Sound level difference (D)

  • Standardized level difference (DnT)

  • Apparent sound reduction index (R')

  • Weighted single-number ratings such as:

    • R'w

    • DnT,w

    • Dw

7. Documentation and Reporting

  • Transferring measurement data to PC software.

  • Visualizing frequency curves and measurement results.

  • Generating reports in accordance with relevant standards.
